CALCULATING POT ODDS

Australians love their gambling, and they particularly love their poker. Now online betting websites have made it even easier to indulge in the passion for poker, providing live games, tutorials and all the excitement of being at the casino without the hassles.

Poker is a group of card games, which have similar basic rules, and share Hand Rakings. The slight differences in all the poker games are based on, the dealing of the cards, whether the high hand wins the pot or the low hand in the showdown. And finally how high the bets can be placed and how many rounds are acceptable. The game starts with an enforced bet, then proceeds from the left; every person has to either match the bet, or fold, which means forfeiting the game. If a person meets the bet, he can even increase it, and the game goes on till every person but won fold, who draws in the winning. If more than one person is left, then the players have to show their hands, and the highest one takes the pot. There are three main types of Poker; Straight poker was the original strategy, all the players are dealt full hands in the round, and they can raise and re-raise. This is one of the simplest variations, which is not so extensively used any longer. The second is called stud, which followed straight, and is the second oldest, in which the cards are dealt in prearranged order of face-up and face-down rounds, which is followed by a round of betting.

The next one is the Draw, in which the players are dealt complete hands, face-down, and after betting the players can change the cards by discarding unwanted cards and acquiring new ones. The Five-Card Draw being the most famous of this kind. Finally the Community, which is a variation of Stud in which the players are not dealt full hands of face-down cards, but a number of Face-up community cards are dealt in the center of the table that can be used by all players to complete their five cards. The most popular game of poker is from this family, namely the Texas Hold-em. Gambling is a world wide phenomenon, almost all the countries can boast of Gambling dens and clubs. Be it America, Britain China or Australia, it is a famous past time world wide, and so is Poker.

Pot Odds:

The pot odds are the ratio of the size of the pot and the call, in simple words if the pot has 100$, and the player must keep 10$ in hand, then he has a 100-to-10 ration, also known as 10 to 1(10:1). They are also compared to the probability that would win the future hand, so current calls value can be estimated. It is simpler to convert the ration of pot odds to percentages, by adding the size of the pot and the value of the call and divide the call by the total sum. The implied pot odds are similar to the normal odds, but while calculating them the future betting is also taken into consideration. Reverse implied plot odds applies where if a person has the best hand, he will win the minimum, on the other hand, if he does not have the best card, he will lose the maximum. Sometimes players try to manipulate the plot odds, the common method is by making a bet which would protect the made hand, and discourage the other players from drawing and chasing the hand. Bluffing strategy involves bluffing the percentage of the time that is equal to his opponent’s pot odds.

Calculating Pot Odds:

The ability to calculate the pot often ensures the win in a game of poker, the calculations should be intelligent. The main aim is to play the law of averages against blind luck, trying to determine if calling the bet would be profitable or not. The simplest way to calculate the odds is to compare the total number of unknown cards, to the ones you have in hand and do the division. A good poker player would only call the bet if he has four times the amount in the pot than he has in the hand. Some easy ways to calculate odds is to take ones total outs, multiply them with two and then add two, this would be the chance of making the hand. There have to be different strategies for different circumstances, if one has a hand that totally misses the board then the player should check or fold, or bluff. If the player has a good hand, and hits the flop well then he should calculate the pot and raise the bet. On the other hand if the current hand is not good, but the player has cards in hand that with drawing can improve he should calculate the odds, that is how many outs he has multiply them by two and add one and then calculate the chance of winning the hand and raise the bet.
